Our Next Pheasant Hunters

In the event some of our Puget Sound Pheasants Forever members are interested the JBLM pheasant Releaser Volunteers would love to have our support for the west side Youth Pheasant hunt opener. Typically, we can use some help to coordinate the activities. As a state volunteer I can attest to the fun of watching youth first time and experienced youth hunters in the field, brings great memories and more so when all goes smoothly. The hunt occurs both Saturday Sept. 17, and Sunday Sept 18. Usually, kids and family members start arriving as early as 7 am- per JBLM and state requirements the hunt officially starts at 8 am. kids will need to be signed up to hunt with JBLM (northwest adventure center- north Ft. Lewis). Sign in will occur at the hunt site. The location will be area 12 (chambers lake- East Gate Rd.) off Hwy 507 headed towards Roy. More information can be provided to those unfamiliar with JBLM and the area we will be hunting. We have a good number of pheasants - enough that should a youth miss a bird we can release additional birds for them to hopefully take. As part of this program, we tend to need help with signing up youth, assist in cooking and serving lunch (our local chapter has provided hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soda, and water for all in attendance). Volunteers frequently bring their hunting dogs as some families don’t have a dog. In that event we try to put the right dog with the right youth. If we can get a few PF volunteers this would be great. I have included the lead Rob Morrison of the Volunteer Pheasant Release program for JBLM. Many thanks in advance, Ken Welsh Puget Sound Pheasants Forever CH 257- Youth Chairman 253-592-7410 cell.
